Meet Austin!
Austin is a 9-month-old Plott Hound mix weighing in at about 35–40 pounds, with soulful eyes and a gentle heart that’s still learning the world can be kind.
Located in Houston - transport is included in the fee.
This sweet boy was once on a euthanasia list simply because he was scared. Life hadn’t shown him much patience or love, and his nervous nature was misunderstood. Since being rescued, Austin has been slowly discovering what safety feels like.
While under anesthesia for routine care, the vet noticed something a little unusual about one of his legs. X-rays revealed that Austin had actually suffered two breaks in the past—injuries that healed on their own before he ever made it to us. Despite that rough start, he gets around just fine and doesn’t let it slow him down. After consulting with a surgeon, it was determined that attempting to re-break and repair the old injuries could cause more harm than good, so no surgery was done. Austin is comfortable and happy just as he is.
Austin is incredibly shy, but never aggressive—his hesitation comes purely from fear and a hard past. He needs a quiet, patient home where he can continue to build confidence at his own pace. Sudden changes and loud environments overwhelm him, but gentle reassurance and consistency help him blossom.
The fastest way to Austin’s heart? Chicken nuggets!! He’s a softie for a tasty treat and will bravely inch closer for his favorite snack.
He absolutely loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion to show him the ropes. Having a dog friend gives him comfort and helps him feel safe.
Austin may not be the dog who rushes up to greet you on day one—but give him time, kindness, and maybe a nugget or two, and you’ll earn the most loyal, tender-hearted companion you could ask for.
He’s not broken. He’s healing. And he’s ready for someone to believe in him.
