Meet Duke – The Duke of Scarborough
Age: Handsome Gentleman
Status: Seeking a calm, loving forever home
Love Language: Belly rubs (non-negotiable)
Ideal Date: Quiet park stroll, soft bed, snack break, repeat
Duke has come a long way from his uncertain beginnings and is now searching for a calm, loving forever home where he can continue to build confidence at his own pace. He can be a little shy in new or busy situations, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and loyal personality truly shines.
This sweet boy is a low energy, easygoing companion who simply wants to be near his people. He is not a velcro lap dog, but he will happily settle beside you and quietly enjoy your company. His favourite thing in the world is belly rubs. A gentle touch on his head or back and he will perform his signature move, rolling over politely to present his belly. It never gets old! He enjoys short backyard zoomies, long cozy naps in his favourite spots around the house, and taking his time chewing on a good bone.
In the home, Duke has beautiful manners. He is fully house trained, does not resource guard, and shows no interest in destroying furniture or shoes. When left alone for short periods, he simply finds one of his beds and naps. Every now and then he may relocate a soft item like a glove or sock to his crate, but he does not damage them. He has also shown the occasional interest in shredding cardboard, but overall he is a calm and respectful house companion.
Out on walks, Duke prefers quiet streets and peaceful parks. Busy intersections and loud traffic can make him nervous, so he appreciates a patient handler who helps him feel secure. With other dogs, he can be cautious at first, especially during nose to nose greetings. Once introductions are calm and respectful, his softer side comes out and he has formed lovely friendships, engaging in gentle play and even snuggling with compatible companions. He could happily live as an only dog, but he would likely blossom with a balanced and calm canine friend.
He has spent time around cats and proved to be respectful, if slightly unsure of them. He keeps his distance and shows no prey drive, making him a good candidate for a cat savvy home.
Duke is still learning his basic commands and will need continued positive reinforcement and patience. He is not highly treat motivated, so consistency will be key. Because he can be sensitive if startled, he is not suited for off leash adventures at this time.
One important consideration is that Duke experiences significant motion sickness and stress during car rides. He becomes anxious, drools heavily, and will typically vomit on longer trips. A home where frequent or extended car travel is not required would be ideal for him.
He has done wonderfully with teenagers and would likely do best with calm and respectful children who understand his gentle nature. When things feel overwhelming, he chooses to quietly remove himself rather than react.
Duke’s ideal family will offer patience, understanding, and a peaceful environment. In return, he will give steady companionship, soft tail wags, quiet loyalty, and unlimited belly presentations. If you are looking for a sweet, sensitive soul who will happily share your space and your heart, Duke may be the perfect match.
