Meet Syria (ACCT-A-243941)! This sweet dog was found and brought to us, and while we love having him here, we know he deserves a loving and caring home!

Syria is a gentle soul who's still learning to trust the world around him. He can be a little nervous at first, and might take some time to warm up, but once he does, he's happy to accept gentle pets and treats. He's very easy to handle. Our team has been working hard to make him feel comfortable with lots of enrichment like frozen kongs, broth bowls, and even bubbles! We've also been experimenting with different scents like vanilla, rosemary and lavender to see what he enjoys.

While he's a bit shy at first, Syria has the potential to be a wonderful companion for someone patient and understanding. He's looking for a calm and loving home where he can continue to build his confidence and blossom into the amazing dog we know he can be. Notes
Volunteer 3/8/26: I took out Syria yesterday, Sunday 3/8. He greeted me at his small kennel door with his tail wagging. Syria allowed me to leash him and lift him down from his kennel with no problem. He may be house trained, as he went to the bathroom within a couple of minutes after getting out. Syria was very easy to walk through the parking lot to get to one of the runs. Once inside the run, Syria displayed his joyful and playful personality. He would follow me around and run across the run. When another dog entered the next run, Syria looked very interested in meeting the other dog. When the other dog was running back and forth and getting his zoomies out, Syria was running in the same direction and trying to keep pace with the other dog. Syria was easy to redirect his attention from the other dog. He would run back to me when called or when I showed him a treat. Syria would approach me and sit for a treat. He's an affectionate boy that also loved to hop into my lap and enjoy being scratched and pet all over. Syria was a lot of fun to play with. When we returned, he allowed me to lift him back into his small kennel without issue.

03/05/2026:
Kennel Presentation: He was sleeping when I approached his kennel and he slowly got up to come to the front. I went to carry him out, and he backed up to the back of his kennel. I gave him a few treats, and then gently lifted him up which he allowed however his tail was tucked the whole time.

Leash Skills: Once we got outside, I put him on the ground and he walked with a tucked tail still. Sociability: When we got to the play yard, he took his time sniffing around with his tail still tucked. Eventually, I sat on the ground and called him over and dropped some treats and he came over to me. Body language is still very nervous and he's clearly very scared. However, he seems to be comfortable in my presence. He took treats pretty gently out of my hand and took pets from me all over.

Play: No interest today

Dog Interaction: Didn't come across any other dogs

Return to Kennel: Carried him back into his kennel with no issue. Color Level: Giving gold as he is very submissive and very Easy for handling just fearful
