Thanks to a generous donor, any rescue partner taking Skippy will get a $750 medical incentive grant via ACCT Philly to help offset the cost of his care!
Skippy is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Skippy must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by Wednesday, February 18th at 10AM. Should Skippy's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Skippy is a senior gentleman who was surrendered on 2/14 after living in the same home for 14-15 years. His family shared that he has been a beloved indoor dog, living with multiple adults, children ages 12 and 3, and another dog. They described him as low-energy, fully housebroken, crate trained, friendly with strangers and children, and generally easygoing. He knows commands like sit, stay and high five, and loves treats and attention. While he didn't live with cats, they did say he did ok with them.
At the shelter, staff described Skippy as a "sweet old man." When taken outside, he calmly relieved himself and moseyed along at his own pace. During a dog meet with Stacey, he was more interested in sniffing the gate than engaging, showing relaxed curiosity rather than tension.
Skippy's urgency is due to reported seizures in his previous home. Because of this history, he needs expedited exit from the shelter environment where stress can exacerbate medical conditions.
His plan includes monitoring for seizures, however he also has moderate dental disease, a pendulous inguinal mass, and a dermal mass noted on exam. Due to his advanced age and medical concerns, he was placed on an urgent pathway for expedited exit.
Skippy would do best with an adopter or rescue experienced with senior dogs and comfortable managing seizure disorders and chronic medical care. He has lived successfully with children and another dog and has been described as friendly, affectionate, and easy to love. This sweet senior deserves a calm, stable home to live out his golden years with comfort and dignity.

Skippy is a sweet old man, when I took him outside the first thing he did was pee, and he moseyed along until we did the dog meet with Stacey. He was more interested in smelling the gate than Stacey!
