Meet Rue! This pretty little girl just turned one year old, and would love to get her second shot at a loving home. Rue was surrendered due to her owner's family situation, when having a young dog just became too much for them to handle.
Rue previously lived with kids as young as five and she adored her human siblings , so she would love to find another family with children to pal around with! Her owners described her as a very loving, energetic, and extremely loyal family-oriented dog, who has a high energy level but doesn't mind going in her crate when it's time to chill out. As a 1 year old pup, she is doing well with her house training but has occasional accidents, so she'd benefit from a little additional training in that area. Rue previously lived with a cat, but due to her boundless energy and tendency to chase her feline friends, she'd do best in a cat-free home.
When it comes to other dogs, Rue hasn't previously shared her home with them; her last family said she may do well as a single dog, but she loves meeting other friendly and social pups too, so she could be comfortable in a multi-pup household too. A dog meet at the shelter would be required prior to adoption to ensure everyone gets along!

Behavioral :
Volunteer 2/12:Rue was a little leash shy, but very easy to walk other than some slight pulling, played in the yard with a tennis ball, sits on command, appears housetrained. Is so very cute
per day trip 2/9: Rue and I went on a day trip yesterday. She was very sweet just a little shy. When I first approached her she laid on her back and was very submissive. We started walking out of the shelter and she just laid down when someone approached her. She enjoyed the car ride and loves treats. She and I went for a walk in the park and she did well on the leash but she had bursts of zoomies a few times on the walk. She would randomly just start running. She's such a sweet dog. Loves her stuffies and treats!
Per volunteer 2/7: Rue was so fearful at first but tempted to come out of the kennel with treats! She was great, just needed a little patience. Once leashed she walked easily in a leash and didn't pull at all. Outside she used the bathroom right away so may be house trained, and wanted to snuggle up from the cold. She went into her kennel so easily and was excited to get back into her space. She's fearful but really submissive and SUCH a sweet girl, just needs a little patience!
Per staff 2/6: Took Rue out for a walk to the volunteer office and found her very submissive / timid. Easily looped, lots of appeasing behaviors (ears back, lip licks, flopping over going belly-up). Hesitated to step out of kennel herself, despite a treat lure. Took a few minutes of sitting with her until she positioned herself just right to try and take the step - after her paws were on the floor, she adjusted and had no issues moving though the kennel area. In the volunteer office, met a couple new volunteers around whom she continued being submissive/timid (hunched posture, lip licks, slow movements) but tolerated some gentle touch. Over the next few minutes, began to relax, becoming more explorative, upright, and giving more low tail wags. No issues returning to kennel.
Per staff 2/5:
Kennel Presentation: In the back of the crate when I approached. Tried to move further to the back with wide eyes, ears back and submissively rolling on to her side.
Leash Skills: Has to treat lure to leash up which took a few tries. Once leashed up and walked body lowered to the floor with wide eyes and ears to the side. Immediately went to the bathroom once outside.
Sociability: Did not solicit any pets from me. I was able to gently pet her and she did a slow lip lick. Once she had gone to the bathroom she pulled back towards the building.
Play: n/a
Dog Interaction: n/a
Return to Kennel: Walked right into the crate, did not of the leash clipped and when I reached in she moved away from me. I used a treat to be able to remove the leash.
