Alfie is a young, strikingly beautiful American Pitbull Terrier who was literally seconds away from being euthanized due to shelter overcrowding. His life was saved in a heart-wrenching moment that still brings tears to our rescue team’s eyes.
Our team was just leaving the shelter after a full day of intakes when we heard the quiet sobs coming from the kennel area. Staff members were gathered in front of Alfie’s kennel, visibly emotional. The shelter veterinarian had already placed the leash around his neck and was preparing to walk him to the back room. Alfie, completely unaware of what was about to happen, was being given one last “pup cup” as a final act of kindness. The remnants of that treat were still visible when we intervened.
We were already at capacity, but something about Alfie stopped us in our tracks. He is simply perfect—gorgeous coat, soulful eyes, and the kind of personality that lights up a room. With the best temperament imaginable, Alfie gets along beautifully with people of all ages and sizes. He’s gentle, friendly, and incredibly social. He also does wonderfully with other dogs and cats, making him a versatile and loving companion for almost any household.
What truly sets Alfie apart is his joyful, infectious energy. When he walks, he wiggles so much that he actually hops with pure excitement. He’s beyond affectionate—once he locks eyes with you, his whole body lights up and his energy just pulls you in. He has a magnetic presence that makes everyone around him smile and feel instantly loved.
Alfie was brought back from the edge, walked out of the shelter on his own four paws, and is now safe, healthy, and thriving in foster care. He has no idea how close he came to never getting the chance at a real life. Now he’s ready—more than ready—for his perfect forever family.
