Meet Champ!

Champ is a 2-year-old, 57-pound soulful, sensitive boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. He is feeling the stress of being back in the shelter, but his gentle nature shines through the moment he's given a little space, kindness, and reassurance.

He comes out of the kennel at a moderate pace, clearly excited to get going. He may show brief interest in the leash, but offering him a toy easily redirects him-he's happy to carry it along and focus on that instead. Once outside, Champ goes potty right away and shows no signs of having accidents indoors.

Champ is generally good on leash, with only mild to moderate pulling at times. He eagerly jumps into the car on his own and enjoys riding along, settling in once comfortable. He can be excited about getting out when the ride is over, so using a tether is recommended. He rides well overall, occasionally vocalizing softly before laying down to relax, especially if he has a toy to chew on.

Playtime is where Champ truly lights up. He loves toys and can sometimes fixate on them, but he does well when asked to trade for another toy or a high-value treat. He will happily sit for toys and enjoys fetch. He can jump quite high when excited about play, but redirects nicely back into a sit when asked. He knows "sit" and will offer it readily for toys or treats. Treats should be given with a flat palm, as he can sometimes take them a bit enthusiastically.

Champ can be occasionally mouthy, appearing to explore the world with his mouth, but he responds well to redirection and guidance. He tolerates handling beautifully and is excellent for bath time, often relaxing as his stress melts away with gentle care.

In public settings, Champ does very well. He greets new people calmly and accepts pets politely. In a home environment, he settles nicely-after some exploration, he's content to relax on the couch with a toy and prefers to stay close to his person, even while chewing.

Champ is a deeply sensitive and trusting dog who warms up quickly once he feels safe and connected. Because of his mouthiness and limited spatial awareness, he would do best in a home without small children. He would also likely thrive as the only dog in the household, where he can soak up one-on-one attention.

Champ is a loving, devoted companion who simply wants to belong. With a calm home and a patient person to call his own, he has so much love to give.
