He did wonderfully riding in the car, only needing a little help the first time. After a few repetitions, he hopped in on his own. Out and about at Freedom Park and Independence Park, he was nonreactive to kids, bikes, dogs, runners, and general activity. He also enjoyed a trip to the pet store, a bath, treats, and even a pup cup at Milkbread where he made new friends. For baths, a cup of water works best for rinsing—spray hoses seem to startle him, so a gentler approach keeps him comfortable. After a full day of adventures, Jeff met his foster’s dog with a slow, parallel walk on neutral ground. Both dogs did great, with only a little initial whining before settling into sniffing and walking together. Jeff seems unsure about toys but is very responsive to treats and affection. He’s sweet, curious, and gives the impression that he’s still learning how to “be a dog,” but he’s eager and open to it. He pulled a bit leaving the shelter, but once settled, he walked beautifully. A slip lead used as a shoulder harness helped initially, and a professional dog walker even commented that he’s close to being fully leash trained. Jeff is dog-selective, so slow introductions are important. He does well with the resident male dog who enjoys roughhousing but needs to remain separate from the foster’s female dog. A crate-and-rotate routine works well for him. He is crate trained—though he may need a little coaxing to go in—and he learns quickly. He knows sit, takes treats gently, and picks up new commands with ease. He’s energetic, eager to please, and will thrive with an adopter who understands his strength and enthusiasm.
