Pit Bull Terrier and Rat Terrier Dogs Available for Adoption

CAMI CUDDLING CUTIE

Pit Bull Terrier, Rat Terrier
🇺🇸
Friendswood, Texas
February 26th
female, medium, baby

DESCRIPTION

Cami is a sweet, sensitive little lady who loves toys, treats, and being close to her people, but she’s just as warm when meeting new friends. She’s estimated to be around 9 months old, about 26 lbs, and likely a pittie mix (as always with rescue pups, breed is our best guess). One of the first things you may notice about her is a unique mark from her past: Cami has a scar running down her back from before she came to us, believed to be a burn, but she has healed beautifully and now it’s simply a very cool-looking stretch of skin without fur. She has heard it said that scars are cool and we know the right person will agree with that.

Cami is so fortunate and is waiting for her adoption day in a loving foster home where she has been showing off her best house manners and having fun with the resident dogs. In her foster home, she’s basically your cheerful little shadow, following her person everywhere, zooming around the house, and keeping the vibe upbeat and happy all day. She loves activity in all forms, walks, the park, toys (especially squeaky ones), fetch (and yes, she brings the ball back!), tug-of-war with her humans and the other foster dog, and even running errands. Please note that “errands” for her are not complete without a pup cup. But don’t worry, this girl is not all busy and go, when the day is slow, Cami’s “off switch” is closeness. She’ll curl up right next to you, cuddle in tight, and sleep in the bedroom while you read or watch a movie. Her foster enthusiastically shared that Cami is 100% house trained and does great with routine: out first thing in the morning to handle business, regular potty breaks throughout the day, out again around 11:30 pm, then quiet in her kennel overnight for about 7 hours with zero accidents in her crate. She prefers going potty outside but will use a puppy pad by the back door as a backup, because sometimes the weather is frightening (to us people) and a puppy pad is a great Plan B for those situations. Overall her foster says she’s been genuinely such an easy house guest.

Socially, Cami is very sweet. She loves people and warms up quickly, and she is a big fan of kids. When she sees kids on walks she’s all tail wags and sparkle eyes. Her favorite friend to see on walks is their neighbor’s 4-year-old, who she happily lets pet her… and then she tries to sneak a kiss with a little hop because she has approximately zero concept of personal space (in the sweetest way). Cami’s foster shared that she still has a big “puppy brain,” which is true and appropriate given her age, in other words, she’s affectionate and enthusiastic, but she’s still learning new skills and mastering her manners.

Cami is also growing into a wonderful walking buddy. She loves walks and continues to settle into the rhythm of longer strolls. She can still get excited and pull a bit at the beginning, but she settles into a calm pace quickly, and continued practice will have her walking like a dream in no time.

With animals, Cami has lived with a full little crew: four small breed dogs (quick run-down: dachshund/chi mix 6 months, Yorkie mix 7 years, Brussels Griffon 7 years, terrier mix 17 years) plus two senior cats (16 and 19). Her foster says she does great with everyone. She also does great with the cats in the home, and interestingly, her foster shared that she’s actually a little scared of the cats, so she’s definitely not looking to bother them at all.

Around new dogs, she can be a bit shy. When passing dogs on leash she may occasionally shout out a little hello bark, but she continues walking without fuss and responds well to verbal direction. When meeting a dog for the first time, she can be unsure with big, pushy new friends and tends to gravitate toward calmer dogs who are happy to take the getting-to-know-you part slow. A real-life example from her foster: when they recently had a large blue heeler visit, Cami was submissive and stayed out of his way, not trying to play. So she’s not a “charge in and dominate the room” type with new dogs, she’s more of a “let me get-to-know-you” girl, and she’ll do best with gentle dog friends and thoughtful introductions.

Cami’s ideal home is one that matches her energy and gives her regular stimulation, because she is not built for a quiet house with very little to do. She’ll be happiest with activity and enrichment: daily walks, play sessions, training games, park trips, toys to rotate, and humans who like having a buddy involved in their day. She also wants to be around her family as much as possible, so a home where she isn’t alone for long workdays (or crated a lot during the day) will be important, she can sleep quietly crated overnight, but she’s not ready for extended daytime crating yet.

If you want a dog who will keep you smiling with zoomies, fetch requests, fun-filled adventures, and cuddle sessions that end with her snoozing near your feet or on your bed, Cami is your dream girl. Apply today!
