DESCRIPTION

04/06/26 17:55% Acorn is in URGENT need of rescue due to continuing decline of environmental fear. Acorn is terrified to leave the kennel and in constant fear of surroundings. Despite Acorn's fear, he displays very social behavior with staff and other dogs in the shelter and would greatly benefit from leaving this environment. Acorn is available for FOSTER and ADOPTION and is in URGENT need of a break from the shelter environment. CWA 04/02/26 14:25 Meet the sweetest boy in the world, Acorn! Acorn came to the shelter in December with his brother. Both of them came in super shut down and would not leave each others side. His brother, Cashew, was able to find a wonderful foster home that got him out of the shelter but Acorn remains here all byt himself. Acorn has made huge improvements but still finds the world a little scary. In the kennel, he mostly lays on his bed and watches as people overlook him, but out of the kennel he turns into a completely different dog. He is in our small play groups and does great with dogs that have a more gentle playstyle. Acorn continues to show the staff and volunteers everyday that he loves and trusts people; it's the environment that's scary. He does have some environmental sensitivities and does not like to walk on some slipperier floor types. But this sweet boy braves it everyday because he knows he'll get to go outside and hang out with his friend for the day. Acorn needs a place that will allow him to relax and a home that will show him that the world isn't quiet so scary. If you have the space in your home to adopt or foster Acorn, please come in and visit him today. Acorn needs your help. 02/15/26 09:49 MH URGENT: ACORN NEEDS A CALM FOSTER, RESCUE OR ADOPTER NOW

Acorn is a gentle, sensitive dog who is shutting down in the loud shelter environment — but he continues to show he trusts and seeks comfort from people.

In noisy kennel areas, Acorn keeps his head low, moves cautiously, and often retreats to the back of his kennel. Sudden sounds cause him to freeze or panic. Recently, firecrackers near the yard terrified him, and he bolted before being safely recovered. It took him several minutes to settle afterward.

Despite this, Acorn consistently shows that humans are his safe place:

When staff kneel and softly call him, he comes forward to lick hands and gently nudge for reassurance.

He walks close to his handler, frequently checking in.

Once he feels safe in the yard, he becomes playful — offering sweet play bows and animated prancing.

He has been friendly with other dogs. If fact, Acorn loves other dogs and looks to them for reassurance, so a home with or without a furry companion would be a good fit.

Acorn isn’t fearful of people — he’s overwhelmed by chaos and noise. He is living in survival mode at the shelter.

What he needs:
A quiet, patient home with minimal loud stimuli and a gentle routine to help him decompress and feel secure.

In the right environment, Acorn has every chance to blossom into a loving, devoted companion.

Please consider fostering, rescuing, or adopting Acorn. A calm home could truly save him. ?? 01/16/26 This sweet, shy dog is affectionate and loves gentle attention. While initially fearful of leaving the kennel, he displays loose, relaxed body language and responds well to petting and soft talking, often licking and nudging his handler for more interaction. With patience, he begins to show his playful side, even wagging his tail briefly. He is quiet, docile, and gentle, making him a perfect companion for a calm, patient home that can help him continue building confidence. 12/30/25 16:14 Needs rescue due to being severely shut down in the shelter. Dog came in with A1400541. They were abandoned in a room together. Sweet dogs, will allow lots of petting and handling, but very reluctant to leave their kennel. Dogs are kenneled together and need a quiet and calm environment. May be separated, but they are very bonded.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity.
