Pekingese Dogs Available for Adoption

Sherlock is a male black and white Pekingese. Sherlock is about a year old and weighs 11 lbs. Sherlock is neutered, vaccinated including rabies. He tested heartworm negative and is on monthly preventive. Sherlock is ready for adoption.

Sherlock came to us as a rescue transfer. He is a beautiful fellow with a playful, sweet personality. Sherlock accepts new friends readily, human, canine, and others. He is affectionate, but not needy. Sherlock is playful and of a happy disposition. We think he would do best with a playful canine friend. He has shown partiality to white dogs but will play with anyone interested in playing. Sherlock has been known to be a little toy and treat protective but just needs to know the expectations and be corrected appropriately. Sherlock rides well in the car, kennels well, is potty trained and walks on a leash. Sherlock would be fine in a home with one human or a family. He would also be fine as a homebody or a companion to go places. He requires regular grooming. Our ideal home for Sherlock would include a fenced yard and a playful dog buddy.

We require all potential adopters to submit an application. We only accept applications for a specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do not keep waiting lists or files of general applications for dogs we might get later. The online application can be found at this location:

A completed adoption application and, upon approval, an adoption contract is required. Jeff Tarpley Rescue welcomes applications from homeowners, renters, and condo or apartment dwellers. At a minimum, a phone interview will be conducted and a vet reference checked before the applicant may meet their preferred pet.

We adopt primarily in the 4 states of the ArkLaTexOma. Applicants willing to travel to Texarkana will also be considered with additional requirements to qualify as approved.
