Pekingese Dogs Available for Adoption

Dumpling is a 6 year old, 15lb Pekingese gentleman who looks like a real life teddy bear.

Dumpling is a low energy boy who truly embraces the couch potato lifestyle. His preferred position is being carried in your arms. A short stroll down the block 2x a day is plenty for him. Because of his thick coat and short snout, he does not tolerate long walks or hot/humid weather very well.

He waddles while he walks and must be walked on a harness, as he can slip out of collars. Note to adopters: he will try to squeeze under fences if given the opportunity, so this guy should not be left outside unattended or have access to the outdoors without oversight, ever!! That means, no doggie doors!

With people, Dumpling is a little shy at first, but with a few gentle chin scratches, he will melt into you. He would be fine in a home with older, respectful and gentle children. He has met 8 and 9 year old who were dog savvy and he was great with them.

He gets along nicely with other dogs of all sizes and genders. He will scope them out but he is generally independent. He would do well with another calm dog or as the only pup soaking up all the attention.

Dumpling is potty trained and crate trained. He is crated when his foster leaves the house and sleeps in a covered crate at night. He rides perfectly in the car and will curl up on the floor of the front seat with the AC blowing, drifting off to sleep like the little prince he is.

He can be slightly timid in new situations. He loves to hide out in den-like areas: under the bed, in a crate, in the closet. Once comfortable, he is affectionate, gentle, dignified, and full of quiet devotion. Head scratches and belly rubs are his absolute favorite things in the world.

Dumpling would thrive in a calm, relaxed home with an adopter who understands long haired grooming needs, dental care, and the special considerations that come with flat faced breeds. Most of all, he needs someone who wants a true lap dog.
