Lucy is a 2–3 year old Papillon mix who recently came into our rescue after her owner passed away. She was sadly discovered living in a hoarding-type environment, and she arrived needing extensive care - but through it all, Lucy has tried so hard to be brave.
At just 12 pounds, Lucy is a delicate, gentle little soul…and right now, the world feels very big and very scary.
Because she was not properly socialized, Lucy is extremely shy and fearful of new people, new experiences, and sudden changes. She has no aggression at all, but she will need a patient, experienced adopter who understands that trust will take time. Lucy wants to feel safe - she just doesn’t know how yet.
She does well with other dogs and previously lived with many, so a calm canine companion may help her feel more secure.
Lucy is currently in the process of completing her veterinary care, and she will most likely require bilateral knee surgery in the future due to patella luxation. Despite this, she remains gentle and cooperative, doing her best through every step.
Because everything is still new and overwhelming for her, Lucy would do best in a quiet home with older children or no children, where she can decompress and learn what it means to finally be safe.
Lucy may not be the dog who runs up to greet you right away…
But for the person willing to go slow, give her grace, and show her kindness, Lucy will be something truly special.
