Jovie is one of those dogs that’s hard to explain until you meet her.
A couple weeks ago, she was found running around behind our local county shelter. At first, staff thought she was just a stray that wouldn’t come to them. But then they discovered why she wouldn’t leave, someone had tossed her puppy over the fence overnight. Jovie stayed close, scared, but refusing to go anywhere without her baby.
Sadly, her puppy got very sick and didn’t make it. After that, Jovie spent a few weeks in the shelter and eventually ended up on the euthanasia list, simply because the shelter was full. One staff member refused to give up on her and reached out to us and that’s how Jovie came home.
And honestly? She really is as perfect as they said.
Jovie is just under 2 years old, a medium-sized Mountain Cur, and she’s an absolute sweetheart. She doesn’t need treats to stick around, she just wants to be near you. She’ll sit at your feet, lean into you, crawl into your lap, and happily soak up all the love she can get.
She does great with other dogs and actually adjusts her play style to match them. Crazy puppy? She’s in. Older, chill dog? She’ll relax right along with them. She’s also wonderful with cats; gentle, affectionate, and respectful.
Jovie has energy and loves to run, explore, and go on walks, so she’ll do best with someone who’s active and enjoys spending time with their dog. A fenced yard is great, but not required if you’re committed to daily walks and engagement. She’s not the kind of dog that’s happy being ignored or left without stimulation, she really just wants to be part of your life.
She’s good on leash, though she can pull a bit if she sees something exciting (squirrels are very important business). It’s more playful excitement than prey drive, and with some gentle training, it’ll be easy to work through. She’s sensitive and does best with love, patience, and treats; not yelling.
Jovie would be a great fit for a first-time dog owner, a family, or someone just looking for a genuinely good dog. She’s already past the unpredictable puppy stage, and what you see is what you get; sweet, affectionate, playful, and easy to love.
She’s been through a lot, but it hasn’t changed her heart. Now she just needs a home where she belongs for good.
