Milo ACCT-A-242898 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Milo must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by FRIDAY, MARCH 27th, by 10:00 am. Should Milo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Milo came to ACCT with his friend Luna (A-242897) when their owner could no longer care for them due to medical reasons. The two of them would love to be adopted together, but we think their perfect home would be one that understands the commitment of not only one, but two dogs.
Milo is a curious, affectionate guy with a good history with children, cats, and other dogs. While the shelter can be an unpleasant change of scenery, Milo hasn't let it get him down, and has had a great time playing with Luna, as well as making new, human friends. Milo has a lot of energy, but he comes pre-packaged with the familiarity of a loving home, and is quick to adjust to changes. We also know that Milo's smarts are not to be underestimated. His foster reported that he is skilled at opening doors, and moving gates, but we think this determination comes from his separation anxiety. Milo is used to a lively household with his friends, so there is a good chance that if he has his other half, Luna, or uninterrupted access to his new person, he won't feel the need to start picking locks.
Due to his length of stay, Milo is urgently seeking placement with an adopter or rescue partner.

Behavior Notes
Per staff 3/22: Playgroup notes, Steerable 3/5 with water, good gate greetings. Avoidant in the yard, handler orientated.
Per staff on 3/20: Easy to leash, walk, and return. Did well meeting the other dog.
Volunteer 3/15: Milo is kenneled with Luna. I went to the opposite side of the kennel and Milo followed, I could easily put the barrier down to leash Milo. He walks confidently on leash, not a lot of pressure. His buddy Luna seemed dependent of him and anywhere he would sniff or go, so did Luna. Milo was tolerant of it. At the photoshoot, Milo loved giving some hugs and kisses.
Per staff 3/13: laying in crate with closed mouth, ears to the side, wide soft eyes. Quiet. Easy to leash. Walked on a loose leash, sniffing. Met some dogs thru the fence, curious sniffing and loose. Pet on his back and sides, tolerant, unfazed, did not solicit more. Returned to a main kennel, hopped right in and was easy to remove the leash. Observed he started exit searching when placed in a larger kennel.
Per foster 2/25: If you are looking for an active cuddle bug, Milo is your guy! He is reported to be 4 years old and is incredibly sweet and affectionate and loves all types of physical touch. He loves to put his body weight on you and lay right up against your neck, which anyone with anxiety might find very grounding. He is bonded with Luna and would do best to be adopted with her. He is very active and has lots of bouncy, inquisitive energy both in and out of the house.
Short-term foster notes: 2/22-2/24
"Milo was an energetic and sweet pup. He was separated from his bonded dog Luna which contributed to some notable separation anxiety and he was very cuddly and wanting to be with me at all times. He is very smart, and figured out how to open some doors and move gates to get to me as well and had some counter surfing moments but was very redirectable. He was very distressed when left on his own, chewing up a blanket and scratching at the door/pen/gate and whining/barking that I believe was heavily impacted by him not being with Luna. We ultimately gave him some anxiety medication (300mg gabapentin, 100mg trazodone per the medical team) which significantly helped his discomfort while separated and helped him to be calmer and the behaviors before stopped entirely. He listened to commands like sit, stay, lay down, come, and go when directed to certain places. He did have some accidents to start but was going outside by the end of our visit.
He was in a home with another dog his size that we tried to keep separate but they did meet at points through the gates and then in times of moving the gates. Milo was playful and patient with the younger dog while also being possessive over sitting/laying with me and taking away some toys from my dog by barking. I did attempt to see if he would let me trim his nails but he was shy and pulled away, so that may be best with a professional. Milo is vocal and curious and greeted many people, including some neighbor children who he was very gentle with and let them pet him.
He walked excitedly on the leash but did not pull. He played some fetch outside and liked to run laps around the yard outside. He likes to check in and would do really well with someone who is looking for a cuddle bug who isn't a couch potato.
Barking at through gate snapped when he escaped the gate but did not attempt to nip or bite, just made noise and showed teeth to disengage the other dog. Sniffed or they attempted to mutually play through the gate, hit a moment and responded. He escapes and scales gates and opens doors when left alone and trying to get to you. He's also immediately attached, very very affectionate and touchy and got a bit possessive of me when my dog interacted with me in line of sight."
Walk-Sheet Notes:
3/15 No issues exiting/returning, "Shy, may build confidence without Luna." L/M energy.
3/19 No issues exiting/returning. "Loves hugs." Low energy.
3/20 No issues exiting/returning. "Not much interest [in other dogs]. Very affectionate. Prefers cuddles to playing." Low energy.
2/15 Volunteer noted: Ready made family! Wherever Milo goes, Luna follows. Double the fun, double the snuggles!
Per owner 2/11: Surrendered by owner of 2 years, along with another dog (Luna). They described him as playful, that he loves to be around people, but that he's scared of fireworks, and living with adults, an 8-year-old child, and a male and female cat. He is fully housebroken, crate trained, lives inside, has high energy, enjoys bones and blankets, and is playful with strangers, children, cats and dogs. When asked about his ideal home environment, they said one with "kids that can love them and give them everything they deserve."
