Meet Magenta ACCT-A-261968! Magenta is a 4-year-old female who came to ACCT as a stray on 9/17 when she was brought in by a police officer who found her running loose outside.
Ever since arriving at ACCT, Magenta has been suffering from stress. When she first arrived, staff was unable to leash her because she was so averse to the leash touching her that she would snap at it. She was moved to our TTA (or "Time To Adjust") area to be given some time in a quieter environment to decompress, but her progress has been slow as she is so overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Magenta has has good dog meets in the shelter and she would benefit tremendously from an opportunity to fully decompress & find her forever home!

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per staff 9/17:
Dog was transported via control pole by police. When I removed dog from paddy wagon she did not show any overt aggression and walked fine on pole to row G.
Per staff 9/19:
TTA- from a fixed position in the kennel, whenever the ACA went to lasso/leash her she began trying to go after the leash , was very upset even by the leash touching her
Per staff 9/20:
Kennel Presentation: Sitting on her bed when I approached, ears back, wide eyes, tense body. Ate the treat that I offered and came forward to the door taking a treat gently through the bars.
Leash Skills: Backed away to the backside of the kennel when the leash was presented with her front paw lifted, ears pinned back, whale eyes, tense body, tightly tucked tail. Tried using a buddy butter as a treat lure, when the leash was close to her muzzle she would quickly retreat. Tried a treat scatter and lasso, would eat the treats when the leash dropped near her she bolted back low growling and lip puffed. Opted to use the snappy snare. She was moving away from it with ears pinned back, tense body, tightly tucked tail, low growling. Gave a warning snap when it lightly touched her and I moved it back. Slowly approached again with the snappy snare and tossing treats. Was able to leash her with it with treats in the loop. Once leashed she bucked and flailed for a second then stopped and stood still with tightly tucked tail, ears pinned back, tense body. Hopped right out of kennel and transitioned to my leash easily. Walked loose leash, tail low and still, ears pinned back, tense body.
Sociability: Outside she kept the full length of the leash at first, low still tail, tense body, wide eyes. Very food motivated and would come over for treats and take them gently, knows sit. With handling tail would tightly tuck, tightly closed mouth, tense body and moved away.

Dog Interaction: n/a
Return to Kennel: Did a treat scatter to clip my leash. Walked back loose leash wide eyes darting, ears back, tail low. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily.
Per staff 9/20:
Was able to be fully checked in. Sniffed around the intake room first, tail low and still, ears back, wide eyes. Very food motived so we put some cream cheese on the door and she was able to get all her vaccines and microchip without done issues while licking it.
Per staff 9/21:
Sitting on her bed when I approached, came to the front wide soft eyes, ears back, low tail. Backed up when I put my leash in. Put some treats on the ground in the loop of my leash and when she ate them I was able to leash her. Did one buck back then came right out and walked mid to low tail wags, eras back, tenser body. In the yard came over to me with low tail wags, ears back, allowed gentle handling, turning her head away and when I stopped remained next to me. Takes treats and knows sit. Met Ivani - good greetings, sniffed and moved away on her own. Able to get a collar on her with peanut butter on the floor. Went to the exam room so the vet could look at her. She sniffed the cats in there and was easily moved away by calling and light leash pressure. Walked back to kennel loose leash, able to clip my leash and she hopped right into kennel. Making available for walks, experienced blue
Per staff 9/21:
helped get a collar on her- tucked tail, food motivated. Licked peanut butter from a tube and placed collar, unfazed.
