DESCRIPTION

** New Videos 5/29 **

Libra ACCT-A-219773 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Libra must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by Saturday, May 31st by 10:00 am. Should Libra's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

Meet Libra, a handsome and thoughtful pup with a gentle nature and a playful side. Found by police and noted as friendly right from the start, Libra has continued to show that he's a good boy with a lot of potential in the right home. He's easy to leash, walks calmly, and knows how to sit, taking treats gently and showing tolerant body language during handling. While he can be a bit reserved, Libra does enjoy affection and will seek out attention when he feels comfortable.

Libra has a fun, playful streak-he enjoys chasing and grabbing tennis balls and will trade one for another or a treat, though he may show some mild resource guarding tendencies when it comes to his toys. In his interactions with other dogs, Libra has been more on the aloof side. He's participated in playgroups, showing a preference for people over dogs and being more avoidant than social, though he remains tolerant and steerable.

It's important to note that Libra is not a good match for homes with cats. During a medical exam, he reacted strongly to the presence of a nearby cat, becoming fixated and attempting to lunge, even while leashed. Because of this, a feline-free home is recommended. Libra is looking for a calm, understanding home where he can be himself-playful, affectionate, and a bit independent. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a balanced temperament, Libra might just be your perfect match.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per staff 5/28/29: I was walking down the kennel aisles and noticed that Libra was heavily panting, hard barking, and digging at the walls in his kennel. He is definitely stressed.

On 5/25 per volunteer: Libra was one of my favorites today. He allowed me to leash him so easily and walked like a perfect gentleman. His short little body is so stinking cute. He was loving all the treats and snuggles outside. I sat on the ground with him and he crawled right into my lap and nestled his head inbetween my legs. We spent our time together snuggling outside and giving him lots of pets. I don't know how this cute sweet boy hasn't been scooped up yet. Not to mention, his underbite is the cutest thing I have ever seen. He would make an excellent addition to any family.

On 5/13 per staff: Would caution adopting out to home with cats. A medical staff member had Libra in surgery unit for a pneumo test. There was a cat in a trap (maybe 5 feet away) moving around and Libra was reactive, fixated and trying to lunge towards the trap but was on leash so unsuccessful in his attempts

On 5/12 per volunteer: Approach the kennel and he was standing quietly, tail down, not wagging, ears perked up. He came to the front and was easy to leash and pulled mildly to the outside.

He took treat gently and knows sit. Tolerant with neutral body language for all body handling, and solicited some attention to the handler.

Interested in chasing and grabbing tennis balls, I will drop it for a treat or another ball. When I approached him while the ball was on the ground and in between his feet, he would lower his head towards it when I would reach, so I grabbed another ball, and he quickly engaged with me and left the other one alone. This may just be anticipation of play, or this may be mild resource guarding.

Did a buddy walk with Buster, Buster was very interested in him and Libra was more aloof, avoiding eye contact, was very tolerant with tail middle not wagging, ears back, for the entire interaction.

He was easy to return to kennel and remove the leash.

Gold

On 5/9 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Libra was steerable with the water but no the shake can. He was a bit avoidant of the dogs for his gate greeting and was more interested in people than the dogs. He did interact with BC a couple times but it was short lived and quick.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
