Cocoa - Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Cocoa is a sweet senior, estimated around 12. Champ is estimated around 7. They may be mother and son, though we can't confirm that. But what we do know is that they love each other. Cocoa in particular lights up when Champ is around.

These two lost their home in a tragic house fire and came to us shaken and exhausted. Cocoa couldn't walk when she arrived, but she perked up the moment she was reunited with Champ. She sat up and ate her dinner as soon as he was beside her. Champ ate his dinner and then checked whether she had any leftovers (she didn't).

What they need:

A quiet, ground-level space with no stairs, where they can be together
A foster or adopter who will spoil them and take things slowly

What we know: They're being monitored for smoke inhalation and don't have obvious symptoms right now. Both are seniors with some age-related health concerns, and Cocoa may need comfort-focused care.

Their owner loves them dearly, and we are hoping they can reclaim, but are not optimistic given that finding a place to live with two large dogs without any notice is beyond challenging. We are looking for a rescue that can take these two into their care and would be willing to allow the owner to reclaim if they're able to do so within five days, and if not reclaimed, give these two seniors safety and love.

We are open to unicorn adopters, meaning individuals who are experienced dog owners and will give these two the time that they need to decompress, and also be able to financially provide them with the medical support to keep them comfortable.

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
