*New notes 2/12*

Arlo ACCT-A-242016 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Arlo must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH at 10AM. Should Arlo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Arlo is an approximately 1-year-old dog who was brought into ACCT Philly on January 27th after being found as a stray. He has a sweet, affectionate nature and thrives when given attention and affection, though his youthful energy and curiosity mean he needs consistent guidance and engagement. He enjoys being around people and other dogs, though he can sometimes get overly focused on food or objects during walks. There is concern that he could ingest something at the shelter which could lead to an obstruction, so he is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Arlo is looking for someone who can provide structure, training, and outlets for his puppy-like energy. He will flourish in a family that can offer patience, enrichment, and plenty of play and exercise.

BEHAVIOR:
*NEW* Per volunteer 2/12: We took Arlo out tonight. He was happy and high energy on his walk and in the yard. He is very treat motivated. He have lots of kisses and enjoyed some pets.

*NEW* Per staff 2/12: Had Arlo out yesterday, pulled and jumped, bayed like a hound dog while walking. Goofy, Social, And friendly.
Met mallow/ comes on strong, curious

Per staff 2/10: Scheduling a mid day meal to see if it helps with eating of other things.

Per staff 2/10: Arlo was at the front of his kennel with soft eyes and ears to the side with mid tail wags. Tried to push past the door but was able to leash up. Pulls hard on the walk. Saw a male apo and started pulling towards him and then whining. Attempted to eat a rock on the walk but dropped it when I offered a treat. More on the asocial side with me, only interacted to get treats. He would stand in front of me staring at my hands and treat pouch. He pulled hard back towards the door to iso. As we made it inside he pulled hard towards the racks where he proceeded to pick up what I think was a roll of doggy bags and swallow it before I could get my treats out to try and swap. Called medical and they took him to induce vomiting.

Per staff 2/10: Went to get Arlo out in iso to meet a rescue partner. He was very excited. When I went to leash him he was very wiggly and jumpy but I was able to leash him with no issues. He pulled on leash, very strong boy, but I was able to manage him. He is EXTREMELY interested in food, sometimes snatchy with treats but no guarding noted. He settled down after a little while and was licking our hands. He allowed pets all over, I was able to touch his paws and play with his ears. He's a very good boy, just young with lots of energy that he needs to get out.

Per volunteer 2/1: He is a perfect gentleman and I'm sure will be adopted very quickly. Arlo was a perfect weekend house guest! He is such a sweet dog and was happy to meet any person and my resident dog. He has a good sense of curiosity and is eager to please. He is very typical for a young dog and has a lot of energy, but he's able to settle down in the house and loves cuddling on the couch for nap time. He is well socialized and will thrive in an environment that will provide him structure and training to continue to develop him into a perfect dog. Even in the 48 hours he was here for the weekend, he improved on leash walking, settling in place, housetraining, and being calmer around food. He is very treat motivated and can be a little mouthy with treats, so he might be suited for a home with older children.

Per foster 2/1: Poor guy has been having like 6-8 loose stools a day. No blood or worms that I saw, but I think it's a little more than him just getting used to different diets and he may need a course of medication. Definitely a barrier for house training and weight gain for the little guy. Additionally, he is extremely dog friendly! He was very excited to see my resident dog and we did a pack walk on Friday and they've been hanging out on walks together and under supervision.

Per volunteer 1/28: Meet Arlo - puppy energy in a big, gentle body. He's one of those sweet gentle giants who doesn't realize how big he is, and somehow still manages to be the daintiest little soul. He's a skinny little thing right now, which makes you wonder what he's been through... but despite it all, he is nothing but LOVE. Arlo absolutely adores being around people, soaks up every bit of affection you give him, and will never say no to a treat (who could blame him). He's the kind of dog who just wants to be close to you and feel safe again. This sweet boy deserves a soft bed, full belly, and a family who will show him what real love looks like. Could that be you?

MEDICAL:
2/10 Tech Exam: Arlo ingested a non-food item (suspected roll of doggy bags). Induced vomiting with Apomorphine. Vomited once- food material and small amount of green fabric (suspect material of mop head). Did not vomit material that staff witnessed him eat. Administered Cerenia for nausea. No further treatment needed at this time; recheck scheduled.

2/4 Vet Exam: Foster reported dog has been having about 6-8 loose stools a day. No diarrhea or vomiting reported by staff since back in shelter. Is currently on Fortiflora, to deworm as a precaution and monitor appetite and eliminations.

On 2/3, Arlo was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on antibiotics. He tested positive for pneumovirus.

2/2 Intake Exam: 51.9 lbs and in lean body condition. Appeared healthy overall with slight staining on his teeth and moist, red gums.

On 1/30, Arlo was neutered.

1/28 Intake Exam: 44.5 lbs and in thin body condition. Estimated to be 1 year old. Appeared healthy overall with slight staining on his teeth.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
