Mixed Breed Dogs Available for Adoption

JOEY

Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Oak Park, Illinois
February 8th
male, small, baby

DESCRIPTION

Joey is a southern boy from Kentucky who is still learning about life in the big city! His foster says he is curious about the world around him now that he is feeling more comfortable and less shy. He's a smart cookie who has figured out how to stand on 2 legs to look over the top of the pen and watch the goings-on in his foster home. His sweet face and ears can be seen looking for fun! He is full of energy but takes multiple naps like a puppy. He loves to chew! He is easily diverted from table legs to appropriate chew toys with snacks in them.

Weight: 21.6 lbs (and growing!)

Spayed/Neutered: Yes!

Up to date on vaccines: Yes! Will need to continue to receive puppy boosters until 5 months of age.

Microchipped: Yes!

Housebroken: Not yet! They are still working on learning the difference between pottying inside and pottying outside.

Crate-trained: Working on it! They will bark or vocalize for up to 30 minutes, but do eventually settle.

Leash behavior: Still learning! They are a puppy and will need continued positive reinforcement training to learn proper leash skills.

Dog sociability: They love them! They thrive with a dog buddy and would love to live in a forever home with other dogs.

Cat sociability: Unknown! They have never met a cat while in foster care.

Kid sociability: Good with older kids! They are a little too much for small kids or have a history of behaviors that are difficult to manage around smaller children, but they are fine with kids ages 13-18.

Likes: Wrestling with his dog friends, cuddling, giving kisses, relaxing with a chew toy

Dislikes: Cold weather, being carried around like a baby (he says he's not a baby, he's a big boy!)

If you'd like to meet Joey, please fill out an adoption application at animalcareleague.org/adoptions and send us an email at adoption@animalcareleague.org to schedule an introduction!

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
