Some dogs come into your life quietly... and then completely steal your heart.
This beautiful girl came to us through our partner, Cicero Waggin' Tails. When they first took her in, she had no fur, was painfully thin, and completely shut down-curled into a tiny, scared ball. I (Carla, the Foster Manager here at HHS) saw her twice while picking up cats for placement, and I couldn't stop thinking about her. I knew she deserved more than just a second chance... she deserved a real one.
So, I brought her with us.
I knew a foster home would give her the best chance at healing-and I decided I would be that foster home.
Today? She has gained weight, her skin is healing beautifully, and her spirit has fully bloomed. She is ready for her forever family.
Now let's talk about her very important feature: her tongue.
Yes, it hangs out. All the time. In almost every picture. Sleeping? Tongue out. Walking around? Tongue out. There is absolutely no medical reason for it, it's just her signature look that's both hilarious and adorable.
She also "smiles," which can look like a little growl if you don't know her, but I promise it's not. My kids can get her to do it on command. It's her happy face!
She is:
-Wonderful with children of all ages, being a gentle and patient girl.
-A professional cuddler who sleeps under blankets (she LOVES blankets)
-Great with dogs and plays with mine daily
-Good with cats (some even cuddle with her!)
-Completely respectful of my parrot who walks around like she owns the house
Because of her past, I do feed her separately, but she happily sits politely for morning group cookies. She can be a little toy possessive, but a simple "be a good girl and share" (aka "knock it off") and she understands.
She does not need a crate and is fully housebroken. She also enjoys sitting outside in a chair like she pays the mortgage.
She knows the Ring doorbell means her Chewy delivery has arrived.
She loves wearing clothes.
She is short and compact, perfect for any size home.
So, is Apricot perfect?
In our world... absolutely.
That said, I recommend keeping garbage cans secured and food off the counters (I already do, so it's second nature here). And yes, she will happily break down your cardboard boxes for you! You'll get a recycling assistant included at no extra charge.
More than anything, Apricot is loving. Deeply, genuinely loving. She bonds hard, trusts fully, and wants nothing more than to curl up next to her people and feel safe.
If you'd like to meet this resilient, hilarious, blanket-loving girl, please complete an application and give us a call to set up an appointment. She's waited long enough, and now it's her turn for forever.
