Meet Butterscotch!
Butterscotch came to us as a stray with no known history. Since arriving, she has shown herself to be a highly social and wiggly young dog who loves attention. She readily approaches handlers, eagerly takes treats, and isn't shy about jumping up to say hello. During intake and medical handling, she allowed all contact and pick up, showing a friendly and people-oriented personality.
My Ideal Home
Butterscotch would do best in a calm, structured home with experienced adopters who are committed to working on basic manners and impulse control. She tends to jump up frequently when excited and will benefit from consistent reinforcement of alternative behaviors like "sit" and "off." While very social, she can also be fearful at times - especially when being picked up in her kennel - and may "pancake" or press herself low when unsure. A patient adopter who allows her to approach at her own pace and uses force-free, reward-based training will help her build confidence and thrive.
Good with Kids?
Not recommended for homes with children under 13. Due to her poor impulse control and tendency to jump up persistently, an adult-only or teen home is advised at this time.
Good with Other Pets?
History with other pets is unknown. Dog-to-dog assessment was inconclusive. Careful, slow introductions to any resident pets would be recommended.
Overall Health
Healthy overall at this time. She has been described as wiggly and energetic during exams and allows handling.
Behavior Determination
Level 3 - Butterscotch is a friendly and social dog who requires support with impulse control and confidence-building. She will need a patient, structured home committed to positive reinforcement training and allowing her time to decompress.
Other Fun Facts
Butterscotch is highly social and loves interacting with her people. She eagerly follows handlers, happily takes treats, and is always ready to say hello - sometimes with an enthusiastic jump! With guidance and consistency, this sweet, spirited girl has great potential to blossom into a well-mannered companion.
