Meet Apricot Princess!
Apricot Princess came to ACC after her owner passed away, and she's been trying to make sense of a lot of change. In the shelter she can start off tense and uncertain, but she warms up with a little time-softening into full-body wiggles, gentle affection, and a real appreciation for calm reassurance. Staff and volunteers have noted that when she gets some distance from the shelter stress, her sweet personality shines.
My Ideal Home
Apricot Princess would love a quiet, steady home with an adopter who understands that shelter stress can make a sensitive dog seem more guarded at first. She'll do best with a patient routine, slow introductions, and plenty of positive reinforcement (treats, praise, and the kind of gentle affection she seeks out). She's the type who will thrive once she can decompress and feel safe again.
Good with Kids?
No young children under 5. Apricot Princess is recommended for a home without very little kids so she can settle in at her own pace and feel secure.
Good with Other Pets?
Her history with other pets is unknown. In a dog-dog interaction she appeared tense and forward at the gate and had a harder, more intense greeting face-to-face through the fence, so she would benefit from careful, slow introductions and a home that can manage dog social time thoughtfully.
Leash Manners
She walks with moderate pulling and enjoys sniffing along the way. She's been comfortable passing people on the street and can check in for treats and guidance when she's feeling settled.
Overall Health
Recovering from a recent kennel cough episode and recently treated for diarrhea; currently doing well while in care.
Behavior Determination
Level 2 - Apricot Princess can be fearful and anxious in the shelter environment (including occasional hard-staring and reluctance at kennel entry), and she'll do best with a patient adopter who can give her time to decompress and build confidence.
Other Fun Facts
A volunteer described her perfectly: when Apricot Princess is stressed, she knows exactly what helps-gentle hugs and steady comfort. Give her that safe landing spot, and you may be rewarded with the "emotional lottery" moment: a tail wag, a wiggle, and a dog who finally feels okay again.
