Meet Dexter! An older gentleman with a heart of gold who’s ready to find his forever home.
Dexter came to us in rough shape: underweight, a little smelly, and walking with a limp in his back leg. But even then, he continued to show us how sweet and gentle he was. After veterinary diagnostics, we discovered that his limp was caused by an old fracture that healed improperly on its own.
To give Dexter the best quality of life, he will need a hind leg amputation. Here’s the amazing part: thanks to the Grey Muzzle Grant, both his adoption fee and his surgery will be fully covered through our clinic! That’s right; this brave boy is on his way to becoming a happy little tripod.
And don’t let the "grey muzzle" fool you! While Dexter may be a senior, he still has a youthful zest for life. He’s food-motivated, attentive to his handler, and always ready for his next adventure; whether that’s a walk in the park or a cozy night on the couch.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with resilience, charm, and so much love to give, Dexter is your guy.
Could he be the perfect addition to your family?
Dexter is available for adoption at the Plaquemines Campus at 455 F. Edward Hebert Blvd in Belle Chasse. We are open Tuesday-Saturday 10-5. For any questions, please call 504-934-6931 or email plaqueminescampus@laspca.org.
ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
