DESCRIPTION

3/20/26: I took Elvis outside today for photos with a visiting photographer. He leashed up easily but pulled hard on our way to the room. Inside, he let us pet him and seemed to enjoy it, as he'd push his head back in for pets when we stopped. He did, however, have his front and back hackles up the entire time. I was a little wary of this and tried to give him space, but he did seem to want affection. He would also side eye us, which is another body language sign that usually indicates timidity, although he never actually behaved like he was having trouble.

I'd continue to watch him to see if there's something in particular that makes him uncomfortable. I think it's also possible that the shelter environment makes him nervous but he likes people anyways.

" On day one when the wellness nurse was doing Elvis's vaccines/etc. He would get stiff and start whale eyeing, would flinch when being touched anywhere on his body (turned his head rapidly to the area being touch). Once the muzzle was off, he was completely fine.
During walkthrough today, in his kennel he will just stare at me with no movement. When I began to talk to him, he would then give me a tail wag (hackles would be raised, eyes dilated). Elvis also gave me a play bow but bark/growled as he jumped down.
During his pictures a staff member explained to me that he never once relaxed his body appearance during photos. Elvis just may be unsocialized and doesn't know how to dog correctly. "

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
