Brutus - Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Memphis, Tennessee

6/28/26: "I took Brutus outside today for some fresh air. I coaxed him to my hand for a while and lassoed him with the leash, and he immediately started walking by my side. He is definitely shy and could be startled by sudden noises or movements.

Once outside, he circled the play yard opposite to my side and went to the bathroom straight away.

I wanted to make sure he felt at ease so I sat on the ground opposite to him, and he copied me and laid down where he was. I let him rest a while and he put his head down to soak up the sun.

When I got up to fill a pool with water, he stood and made his way to my side, but was cautious not to get too close to me. He was very interested in the pool and the running hose, but never got directly in the water.

After some more sniffing around, I kissed and cooed at him to follow me to the gate, and he did. I lassoed him with my leash again and he walked politely beside me, but occasionally stopped for a short break. He let me remove his leash and laid down in his kennel once inside.

Brutus definitely needs TLC. He needs a foster, adopter, or rescue who can teach him that he's safe and loved. "

6/28/26: "I took Brutus out for a second time today with a potential adopter. This time, he immediately perked up when he saw me and even started to happy vocalize when I opened the kennel door. I still had to lasso him with the leash, he's a bit headshy, but he walked straight outside and seemed glad to be in the sun. he wagged his tail when we spoke to him and quickly went to the potential adopter for pets. He sat next to her and even licked her hand. he was such a great boy and really opened up!!"
