MEET HELEN — A SPECIAL GIRL LOOKING FOR A SAFE PLACE TO LAND
Some dogs come into rescue with stories that break our hearts. Others come with medical challenges that leave us with more questions than answers. Sweet Helen has both.
Helen is an estimated 3–5-year-old mixed breed who was abandoned at a Detroit firehouse. We don't know what her life looked like before she came to us, but we do know she deserves so much better than the hand she's been dealt.
HELEN'S MEDICAL JOURNEY
Helen is blind and has a mass located near the base of her neck, compressing her spinal cord. At this time, we are still gathering medical information, working to better understand her condition, and exploring what treatment options may be available to her.
There are still many unknowns surrounding Helen's medical future, but one thing is certain: Her medical challenges do not make her any less deserving of love, comfort, and a family.
HELEN NEEDS A SPECIAL FOSTER HOME
Right now, we are searching for a compassionate, patient foster who can help Helen navigate a world she cannot see.
Imagine being in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by sounds and smells you don't recognize, unable to understand where you are or whether you're safe.
That's the world Helen is trying to figure out.
We want to give her something she may never have experienced before — the security of a home where she knows she is loved and protected.
Helen needs someone willing to take things slowly, help her learn her surroundings, establish a consistent routine, and build her confidence one day at a time.
She doesn't need someone who has all the answers. She needs someone with patience, compassion, and a willingness to walk beside her while we continue navigating her medical needs.
SHE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SEE YOU, BUT SHE CAN LEARN TO TRUST YOU.
Helen doesn't know that she's different. She doesn't know that her medical journey may be complicated. She just knows the world around her is unfamiliar, and she needs someone to help her feel safe.
We cannot promise what Helen's medical future will look like. But we can promise that we are committed to finding answers and giving this deserving girl the best chance possible.
CAN YOU BE HELEN'S SAFE PLACE?
A foster home would mean more than just a break from the shelter. It would give Helen the opportunity to decompress, learn what home feels like, and experience the comfort and consistency she deserves.
If you're interested in fostering Helen, please reach out to A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue.
And if fostering isn't possible, please SHARE her story. Somewhere out there is someone with the heart and patience this special girl needs.
Helen has already been left behind once. Let's show her that she will never have to face the world alone again.
