Lord Farquaad is a 5-year-old, approximately 63-pound gentleman who is, quite honestly, so underrated. He is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart the more time you spend with him, and once he trusts you, he gives his love fully and sincerely.
He is easy to get out of the kennel and eager to be leashed. On walks, he may start out with a bit of enthusiasm, but he settles into a much nicer pace and would benefit from just a little leash polishing. Lord Farquaad is very housetrained and immediately takes care of business outside.
Lord Farquaad enjoys car rides and is happy to jump in on his own. He can be a little restless at first but settles in after some time, often laying down comfortably. He should be safely tethered, as he can be eager to exit when it's time. When given time to explore, he tends to be a bit aloof at first, preferring to sniff and take in his surroundings before gradually seeking out treats and affection.
He is not particularly toy-motivated, but he does enjoy treats and takes them fairly gently, though a flat palm is best. He knows "sit" and "paw," and responds well to calm, consistent interaction.
Lord Farquaad is truly excellent in public settings. He approaches people politely and calmly, and seeks out gentle affection and treats. He shows positive, relaxed body language around other dogs, with loose movements and wagging, and no signs of tension or reactivity.
Lord Farquaad can be a bit hesitant around some people, particularly tall men wearing bulky coats, and may bark when he feels unsure. He has not shown any signs of aggression, and his behavior appears more protective or cautious rather than threatening. With treats, patience, and being given space to observe at his own pace, he warms up well and becomes much more comfortable.
He handles bath time beautifully and shows a calm, cooperative demeanor throughout. Overall, Lord Farquaad is a thoughtful, gentle soul who takes a little time to warm up but forms deep, meaningful bonds once he does. He is a joy to be around and the kind of dog who will reward patience with unwavering loyalty and love.
As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.
To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
