Buddy is a 4-year-old, 76-pound social butterfly with the very best full-body tail wags you've ever seen. He's a joyful, people-loving dog who clearly thrives on connection and interaction.
Buddy can be a bit mouthy and jumpy when first coming out of the kennel, but giving him a toy right away helps him channel that excitement and makes transitions much smoother. Once he's out and moving, his manners really shine. He enjoys walks and may start out a little strong, but he quickly settles into a nice, steady pace. A harness works best for him, especially if an interesting smell catches his attention.
He rides wonderfully in the car, sitting calmly in the back seat and watching the world go by. He sometimes needs a small boost to get in due to his shorter legs, but he hops out with no problem at all.
Buddy absolutely loves meeting new people and is extremely social. He's polite in his greetings, often sitting on his own to soak up attention, leaning in for pets with nonstop tail wags. He does very well in public spaces and seems to truly enjoy the interactions he gets there. Exploring the yard, sniffing around, and chasing toys are all favorites of his, and while he doesn't always bring toys back, he has a great time trying.
He knows sit and down (though "down" may happen on his own schedule), takes treats very gently, and responds well to verbal cues. If he does get a little excited, a simple "no" is enough for him to redirect and settle.
Away from the shelter, Buddy has had positive experiences with children. After he's had some exercise and enrichment, he just wants to be close to his person, showering them with affection and plenty of kisses-especially to the face.
With his friendly nature, loving personality, and strong desire to be part of the action, Buddy would make an incredible companion for a family or individual looking for a joyful, affectionate dog who truly loves people.
As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.
To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
