Meet Amy Winehouse — also known as Amy!
Our girl Amy Winehouse has a soulful spirit and is officially ready to leave her “back to the shelter” days behind. She is approximately 7½–8 months old and currently weighs between 35–40 pounds. We do not expect her to get much bigger and anticipate she will likely stay under 60 pounds when fully grown. While we cannot confirm her breed without a DNA test, her medical record lists her as an Anatolian Shepherd x Terrier mix — a unique combination that gives her both brains and beauty.
Amy was found wandering alone on a property, and after being picked up by animal control, no one ever came to claim her. She has been waiting at the shelter since December and would love nothing more than a forever home of her own. We suspect she may have lived in a home at some point, as she appears to be potty trained and seems to understand some basic obedience. That said, she is still young and will need a patient and dedicated family to continue working with her on training and providing consistent guidance so she can truly flourish.
During a recent cold spell, Amy stayed with a temporary foster family — and they absolutely adored her. They described her as fabulous. She is incredibly intelligent, walks beautifully on leash, and loves everyone she meets. She is affectionate, people-oriented, and truly such a sweet girl.
Like any adolescent dog, Amy has joyful energy and is eager to learn. She would thrive with a family committed to continuing her obedience, socialization, and overall structure. She absolutely loves other dogs and would do wonderfully in a home with a canine companion to play with and learn from. She has not been formally tested with cats, but given her adaptable nature, slow and thoughtful introductions could be considered. She has had limited exposure to children, so a home with older, respectful kids who understand the energy of a young dog would likely be the best fit.
Amy will thrive in a home that provides both mental and physical stimulation. A home with a yard — ideally fenced — would be wonderful so she can safely explore and stretch her legs. While an apartment is not her ideal setup, we are open to considering it on a case-by-case basis if her exercise and enrichment needs can consistently be met.
The shelter where Amy is currently staying is severely overcrowded, and dogs like her are at risk simply due to lack of space. She needs a committed and loving family to step forward and give her the second chance she deserves.
Health:
Amy is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. She is healthy, happy, and ready to start her new adventure.
Information:
All of our dogs, including Amy, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to adopters once adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Breed labels are educated guesses based on appearance and shelter records — we encourage adopters to focus on personality, needs, and long-term compatibility rather than breed alone.
