Gem is a female dog who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with a large, infected wound on her neck. The wound shows significant inflammation and infection and will require prolonged wound care, including regular cleaning, medical management, and close monitoring to ensure proper healing and prevent further complications.
These types of wounds can be painful and slow to heal, especially in high-movement areas like the neck. Gem will need a safe, clean environment where she can receive consistent wound management and supportive care over an extended period of time. This level of ongoing medical care and monitoring exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment.
Despite her injury, Gem remains gentle and tolerant while receiving supportive care. She is doing her best and would benefit greatly from a calm, compassionate placement where she can continue treatment and focus on healing.
This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of medical care required, which exceeds what we can provide in the shelter. If you are interested in helping, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov
with your contact information so we can call you back.
