Alani is a female dog who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with lameness of the left hind limb. On examination, she was found to have a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury of the left stifle. She also has bite wounds to the inside of her mouth and signs consistent with vaginitis.
A CCL injury is painful and typically requires specialized surgical management to restore stability to the knee and improve long-term comfort and function. In addition, her oral wounds require monitoring and treatment to prevent infection and ensure proper healing, and her vaginitis will need medical management and follow-up care.
This level of surgical care, medical treatment, and recovery support exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment.
Despite her injuries, Alani remains gentle and is doing her best while receiving supportive care.
Alani needs a safe, compassionate placement where she can receive surgical evaluation, treatment, and appropriate recovery care to restore comfort and mobility, along with continued medical management for her other conditions.
This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of medical care required, which exceeds what we can provide in the shelter. If you are interested in helping, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov
