DESCRIPTION

Hi, my name is Amelia! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Sensitive & sweet, gentle, active, still learning!
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history with kids, but since Amelia is known to be nervous we are requiring all kids be 10+. Initial introductions done here at WHS to ensure it's a good fit.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - will need proper introductions to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can Live with Dogs: MAY do okay with an older / lower energy dog who will respect her boundaries. All introductions done at WHS.
-Can do Apartment Living: Yes, with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation
-Potty Trained: Appears so!
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Not required but always encouraged!
-Energy Level: Medium
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a spay
-Additional Information:
Amelia is an affectionate and gentle dog looking for her forever home! Her history is a bit of a mystery - she was caught in a dog trap and brought to the shelter as a stray. It's pretty likely she was a predominantly "outside dog" who was left to her own devices. She does not know any commands and has likely not had much training, but she is still somehow very attentive and receptive towards people. She can be nervous in new situations and with new people, but once she decides you are safe she is SUPER DUPER affectionate. It's likely she is going to bond strongly to her person. Amelia would do best with a dog-experienced person who knows not to expose her to too much too fast. Since she is so sensitive, we would like to see her go to a quiet home where she can adjust at her own pace. Amelia's personality will likely change as she becomes more comfortable in her new home, but this may take a few weeks to a few months. We are not quite sure what she is, but it seems likely she is a herding breed mix. These dogs can be high energy, so we would not be surprised if Amelia becomes more energetic once she's fully comfortable in her new home.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
