Say Hello to Sweet Lainey — aka Missy
This little girl can finally see where she’s going… and now she just needs someone to help her believe she’s safe.
Lainey is a ~2 year-old miniature poodle, weighing about 12 pounds, with a gentle spirit that is still learning what love truly feels like. For the first part of her life, she was used as a breeder dog. She spent her days producing puppies, not experiencing the world, not being socialized, and not being treated like the companion she was always meant to be.
Those days are over.
Since coming into Rescue, Lainey has been given time, space, and kindness. Over the past two months, her fosters have made meaningful progress with her, and she continues to take small but important steps forward every day. But she is still very fearful, especially around men, and she tends to hide and avoid contact when she feels unsure.
She will allow her foster family to pick her up and carry her, which is a big step for her. Trust does not come easily to Lainey, but it is slowly growing.
What Lainey needs now is not perfection. She needs patience.
She would do best in a calm, quiet home with another confident dog to help guide her. She is housebroken and crate trained, and she has begun to show interest in playing with other dogs. She has never shown any aggression toward people or other animals. Her fear is not who she is — it is simply what she has known.
Because of her sensitivity, Lainey should be in a home without small children. She needs a predictable environment where she can move at her own pace and learn that the world is not a scary place.
Lainey is not the dog who will run into your arms on day one. She is the dog who will change slowly, quietly, and deeply. And one day, when she finally chooses to trust you, it will mean everything.
The right person for Lainey will understand that healing takes time. They will see past her fear and recognize the sweet, gentle soul underneath. With patience and love, Lainey has every chance to blossom into the companion she was always meant to be.
The reward will not be instant — but it will be real, and it will be lasting.
Due to her sensitive nature, we are hoping to find a local adopter in Texas to avoid the added stress of transport.
If you believe in second chances and have the heart to give Lainey the life she deserves, she is waiting.
Note from Mark at Twilight Tails: I adopted a golden 3 years ago and the above story could be my Romy's story. Breeder dog, afraid of everything, some said she was broken. I can tell you that NOTHING is more rewarding as a dog lover than watching a dog like this come out of her shell. Is Romy running around like a nut, greeting everyone that comes to my door? No, she's not. But she has grown sooooo very much. Watching her act like a dog, tail up sniffing around, walking with her head up is so satisfying. Romy has inspired me so much by watching her overcome her fears. Know why she’s come so far? Because of the love my wife and I have showered this wonderful dog with. The love she should have had all along. Lainey needs this love.
