Mishka’s story began when we were first alerted to her situation on October 6th. At a glance, she looked like an English Mastiff, but her oversized paws and sturdy, powerful frame told a different story. In person, it became clear — Mishka is a South African Boerboel with a strong spirit and an even bigger heart.
Despite being underweight when she arrived, Mishka’s strength shines through in every step. You can see the power in her legs as she trots, and with proper care and nutrition, she continues to grow healthier each day.
Mishka was likely used for breeding in her past, but those days are behind her now. Today, she is safe, cared for, and learning what it means to simply be a dog.
Weighing about 120 lbs, Mishka is incredibly sweet and affectionate with the people she knows and trusts. She can be cautious around strangers and has a deep, booming bark, but beneath that protective voice is a gentle, loyal companion. With patience and reassurance, she continues to build confidence.
Mishka has started playing with a few carefully selected dogs during daycare and training, and she is rediscovering joy and learning how to play again — something she may have never truly experienced before.
