Maltese and Shih Tzu Dogs Available for Adoption

Meet Mr. Mel! Mel is 10 year old male maltese/shih tzu mix and weighs about 9 pounds. Mel arrived in foster care when his previous family could no longer care for him. His foster mom says: Mel is ready to find his forever home and start telling everyone how he likes things. Mel is ambivalent about the cats in his foster home and hangs out nicely with the canine friends. He adores the outdoors and he loves the couch, both get a lot of attention from him daily. Mel is crate trained, but needs treats to smooth the way. He will walk on a leash but truly loves exploring in the yard. He is on a schedule for outside and will use a wee pad. He is a great silent alarm for early morning as he will stand on you to get you to take him out. Mel is tiny guy so a home with no small children is best. He has excellent hearing and will alert if there is wind, rain, raccoons on the roof or noise from neighbors yard. Mel is the most food motivated dog on the planet. He does barge into other pups bowls for their food so meal time is absolutely a monitored event. We are working on food manners. Mel is the chill dog personified. He follows his foster Mom to make sure all is well and generally settles wherever he can keep an eye on her. He is a sweet trusting little guy just waiting sort of patiently for the next snack/meal/ dropped crumb.

Mel is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and has had his teeth cleaned.
