Meet Autry – The Boy Who Almost Didn't Get His Chance

Autry is a 2-year-old black Lab mix, about 50 lbs, with the sweetest eyes and the goofiest personality. He's still filling out a little, but his heart? That's already completely full. The day Autry was pulled from the shelter was the very day he was scheduled to be euthanized. He came within hours of never getting to chase another ball, never resting his head in someone's lap, never knowing what it feels like to truly belong.

Now that he's safe, he's living every day like it's the best one ever — and he's just waiting for someone to share that joy with.

A Big Goofy Puppy at Heart Autry is basically a lovable, oversized puppy. He lovesto play ball, running in the yard, tossing toys in the air, and chewing on his favorites are some of his greatest joys. But when the zoomies are over? He melts.

His favorite place in the world is right beside you on the couch, watching TV with his head in your lap. He looks up at you like you hung the moon. He just wants to be close.

Sensitive, Loving, and Learning Autry is incredibly affectionate and bonds deeply with his people. Right now, he can be a little insecure and tends to follow you from room to room — but considering everything he's been through, that makes sense. He's learning that he's safe now.

He hasn't had formal training before, so he will thrive with structure, consistency, and a family committed to helping him grow. A training class would do wonders for building his confidence and helping him settle when new people visit (he gets very excited because he just loves everyone so much).

He is happy to be crated at night and when left alone. He even goes in his crate on his own for naps. It is his safe place. He hasn't tried to run off, but being mindful at doors is recommend.

Autry is high-energy, loving, a little needy, and completely devoted. He didn't get the easiest start in life, but he hasn't let that hard chapter define him. He is resilient, joyful, and so ready to give his whole heart to someone.

He just needs a family willing to guide him, play with him, laugh at his goofy antics, and let him rest his head in their lap at the end of the day.

Autry got his second chance. Now he's waiting for his forever.
