Meet the sweet and handsome Duke.

Duke adores all people and he loves giving hugs. He jumps up to get the hugs. His new family may want to train the huggy habit out of him, or they might not, because Duke gives very nice hugs. Caution with small children may be warranted, although we don't have any wee ones around the shelter with whom to test him.

Duke's general excitement about being alive also results in him being rather a puller on leash. He does listen when corrected, then in short order goes back to wanting to dash after some fantastically interesting scent. He'd benefit from training in that area as he's a strong boy.

We're still learning about Duke's attitude toward other dogs. He has been reactive to a few, including his brother when they were housed together into one small kennel for a short while. Then later he reacted to a couple dogs when out on a walk. However, we think this is likely fear-induced behavior due to kennel stress from the chaotic shelter full of strange dogs and people, and we can't really blame him for that.

After Duke had had a chance to enjoy a walk outside, snuffling in the fresh grass and soaking up some sunshine, he made friends with a number of dogs through play area fences. Since he's only been here a short while, every dog he has seen has been a stranger to him. We'd guess that he'll relax into the shelter routine and make some doggo friends eventually, or even better settle into a home and leave his worries behind when he feels secure and loved.

Duke will need to be neutered before he can go home with you (he has an appointment, so that should happen pretty quick).

Though we can't make guarantees, Duke keeps his kennel clean and appears to be well housetrained.

We do not have info on his attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
