Foster insights/backstory:
Meet Honey Ham… but his friends call him Hammie, and trust us — once you meet him, you’ll understand why everyone falls for this sweet boy.
Hammie’s story started like many Texas strays — alone and uncertain. He was found wandering and brought to a local shelter in East Texas, where he was discovered to be heartworm positive. Thanks to rescue, Hammie got the second chance he deserved. After patiently spending months recovering from heartworm treatment, Hammie is finally ready to start the life he’s been waiting for. Through it all, he has remained the happiest, most gentle soul — the kind of dog who simply wants to be near his people.
Hammie is the definition of an easygoing companion. A nice walk, a little playtime, and he’s ready to settle in beside you for a cozy night on the couch. He’s a professional cuddler, an enthusiastic toy “destroyer,” and the perfect binge-watch partner (true crime included). He’s wonderful with people, great with other dogs, respectful with cats, and has lovely house manners. Hammie is also a smart boy who already knows several commands and enjoys working for treats — making training fun and rewarding for both of you. But what truly makes Hammie special is his heart.
After everything he’s been through, he greets each day with joy, curiosity, and so much love to give. He doesn’t need much — just a family to call his own, some toys to “defeat,” and a warm spot next to you on the couch. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will make every day a little brighter, Hammie might just be your perfect match.
