Ideal Home/Adopter: Turks' ideal home would be with an adopter who understands that trust takes time and is happy to let him warm up at his own pace. He is gentle and sweet with kids, but his size can be overwhelming for little ones. His people should enjoy daily walks and playtime, but also appreciate a dog who can settle and relax. He has a loud bark and likes to have space to run so a house with a yard is preferred over an apartment. Most of all, Turks is looking for a family who will offer consistency, kindness, and a safe place to land—once he knows he's home, his loyal, loving personality truly shines.
Likes: Chewing on toys, belly rubs, treats, playing fetch and tug, going for walks, car rides, zooming in happy circles around the yard, meal time, and snuggling
Dislikes: Turks can take a little time to warm up to new people, especially men. He prefers to approach on his own terms and appreciates when new friends give him space to come over, sniff, and get comfortable first. He can be sensitive to loud or unexpected noises (like a garage door), but once he understands what's happening and what to expect, he settles in and does just fine.
What makes this dog special: Turks looks every bit the classic Lab—with a heart just as big. He's the kind of dog who may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, you've got yourself a loyal, goofy, affectionate best friend. Turks is fully potty trained and an A+ crate dog. His crate is his safe place and he happily sleeps from 10pm–8am, quietly and without a peep. He can also settle in his crate for several hours during the day, making him a great fit for a home with a predictable schedule. He's lived with other dogs in the past and is currently thriving as the only dog in his foster home, so we think he'd do well in either a single-dog or multi-dog household. We don't know how he feels about cats yet. Turk is gentle and sweet with kids, though because of his size and the fact that he's still polishing his manners (hello, enthusiastic greetings!), a home with older kids might be best. This boy is smart and eager to learn—he's progressing with basic commands and continues to impress us daily. He loves car rides, enjoys going for walks (he's still learning not to pull or zig-zag), and has a medium energy level. A daily walk plus some playtime is his sweet spot. Turks is truly a special dog who just needs a patient, loving home to help him continue building confidence and trust. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a gentle soul and a playful streak, Turks might just be your perfect match.
Turks' adoption fee is $350. All fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, worming, flea and heartworm current. All dogs over 6 months of age have been tested and are heartworm negative. If you are interested in adopting, apply at rescuedohio.org to become an approved adopter and a meet & greet can be set up once approved.
