Meet Smokey! This handsome 2-year-old neutered Lab mix weighs in at 56 pounds of pure fun. He’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on all preventatives ready to head home with his forever family.
Smokey is playful, smart, and delightfully silly. He has a moderate energy level and loves to roughhouse with other dogs, but he’s great at picking up on cues and knows when it’s time to settle down. He’s friendly when meeting new dogs and would truly thrive with a confident, playful dog sibling to show him the ropes.
He’s been around kids while crated and remained calm during their visits.
Smokey can be okay with cats he’s definitely curious and may try to initiate a playful chase at times, though other times he doesn’t bother with them at all. He’s a social, happy guy who does well meeting new people. If someone comes into the house, he’s friendly; if they’re outside, he’ll give a little bark to let you know.
Smokey is still very much a puppy at heart and is learning the basics. He understands that potty is for outside and has made great progress with house training, though he’s not fully housebroken just yet. He’ll need continued guidance and consistency. He’s smart and eager to learn but can be a little hard-headed in the cutest way possible! Smokey sleeps next to his fosters bed all night and doesn't stir until morning.
On leash, Smokey is a work in progress. He does much better with a harness but can still be all over the place and will need patient training. He’s not a fan of the crate, though he settles once inside and should be crated when left alone (no longer than 9 hours) since he can be rambunctious and a bit of an escape artist.
Smokey doesn’t resource guard and is happy to share, though he does think just about everything might be edible! He enjoys toys, can be a little nervous in the car, and does fine with stairs.
Overall, Smokey is an amazing, funny boy who will flourish in a moderately active home with a patient family and a friendly dog companion. With love and structure, he’s going to make someone an incredible best friend.
