Labrador Retriever Dogs Available for Adoption

My name is Gilford, and I'm what the vet calls a "black lab mix." I'm a big fella, pushing 87 pounds, and I'm two years old in human years.

My favorite things in the world are squeaky toys. And my absolute, number one, can't-live-without-it toy is my ball. I’ll lay on the cool grass in the yard, smack it around with my paws, and make it squeak and squawk.

Fetching is fun, too. I love chasing after the ball when it’s thrown, feeling the wind in my fur. The only problem is... I don’t really like giving it back. It’s just too much fun to chew and roll around with! My humans usually have to come and gently coax it out of my mouth.

I also enjoy just laying in the yard, smelling all the interesting smells, and watching the world go by. The birds chirping, the squirrels darting around, and the little humans playing – it's all fascinating.

If you notice in the pictures, I'm missing a back leg. Don't worry, it doesn't slow me down at all...I get around just fine. But my foster says I should tell you that I won't be a good running or hiking partner.

I'm a smart boy, they tell me. I learn tricks quickly, especially when treats are involved. Sit, stay, shake… piece of cake! But honestly, I really like snuggling. There's nothing better than resting my head on a human lap and feeling their gentle strokes.

I'm particularly good with the little humans. They squeal with delight when I nudge them with my nose, and I just lay there patiently while they pat my head. They're just little, and I know I need to be gentle. After all, a gentle giant is what I strive to be, even if I do sneak in a few extra squeaks with my ball when no one's looking. Life is good, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
