Cumin is one of nine puppies born after an unplanned neighborhood pairing between two dogs. Their mom’s owner lovingly cared for the entire litter from the beginning, but when a health situation made caring for nine growing puppies alone impossible, the responsible decision was made to ensure each puppy could find a committed forever home.
Cumin may seem a little shy when she first meets new people or explores new spaces, but that gentle start doesn’t last long. Once she feels safe and comfortable, her playful personality comes out and she’s ready for a full-on wild rumpus. She has a thoughtful, observant nature and takes her time before diving in — and when she does, it’s pure puppy joy. Cumin also has the most striking green eyes, which only add to her quiet charm.
When the puppies first came into foster care, they had been on cedar bedding, which caused some temporary skin irritation that may still be visible in a few photos. There is no long-term impact, and their skin and coats are already healing beautifully.
Cumin is off to a great start with her puppy basics. She is crate trained, learning leash skills, and working on house training with consistency and routine. She does well living with cats, dogs, and respectful children and would thrive in a home that understands a little patience goes a long way in helping her confidence grow.
If You’re Thinking About Adopting Me, I Think You Should Know
I might seem a little shy at first, but once I know I’m safe, I’m ready to play and have fun. I love to explore at my own pace and would do best with someone who understands that confidence grows with kindness. If you give me time and reassurance, I promise a playful, loving companion — and you’ll get to admire my beautiful green eyes every day, too.
Important Adoption Information and Next Steps:
All animals adopted through the Oswego County SPCA (OCAWL) are:
Spayed or neutered
Up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations
Microchipped prior to adoption
Cats are FeLV/FIV tested, and dogs are heartworm tested (if age-appropriate).
Our animals are cared for in loving foster homes — they are not housed in a shelter environment.
We review all applications thoroughly to ensure the best match for both animal and adopter.
Our adoption fees help cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and rescue operations so we can continue saving animals throughout Oswego County.
To apply to adopt, please visit www.oswegocountyspca.org
and complete our adoption application.
After Submitting Your Application:
Please make sure you have notified your veterinarian that we will be calling and that it is okay to speak with us. If you do not currently have a vet, please determine which one you will be using and set up care in advance so we can confirm your new pet will receive medical attention when needed.
For Pets Already in the Home:
Because the number of homeless animals in our area is so large, we adopt only to homes where current pets are spayed or neutered, with documented medical exceptions. We also require that all resident pets be up to date on their vaccinations to help ensure that everyone — both new and existing family members — stays healthy and safe.
Keep in Mind:
We are 100 percent foster-based and 100 percent volunteer-operated, from the top down. Our team works hard to get animals into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Please be patient — but if you do not hear back within a few days, feel free to message us on our Facebook page to confirm your application went through.
