CHARLIE

Labrador Retriever
April 1st
male, large, senior

DESCRIPTION

How's my "distinguished gentleman" disguise looking? Are you fooled? Do I look super dignified, like I could conduct an orchestra or prepare your taxes?
Okay, I admit- the little teeth do give it away somewhat. You've got me. I'm a goofy guy! My name is Charlie, but I'm not the only Charlie here, so you can call me "Chocolate Charlie" or maybe "Old Man Charlie" because I'm nine years old. You might think I should be "Big Charlie" because I'm 65ish lb, but the other Charlie is actually bigger than me, so that doesn't really work.
I've got "jocular grandpa" vibes. A little bit creaky, but I could still do a jig! And I'm the kind of guy who will happily joke with every stranger I meet (dad jokes, of course, but actually funny ones!) and leave everyone smiling.
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I kinda disagree. I bet I could learn. Even if I don't, though, I already know plenty! I can sit, shake, lie down, and speak. "Shake" and "speak" are my favorites, so I'll sometimes do those without being asked! I've got a bit of the old arthritis, so "sit" is my least favorite, but I'll do it if you ask. I take some pretty standard old man meds to keep me hoppin': a joint supplement, an anti-inflammatory, and gabapentin. None are terribly expensive, but I will have to stay on them for life.
I'm an agreeable fella: good with everyone I've met so far! I've lived with another dog and did well with them. While I haven't had an official cat test, I did get to hang out with the office cats for a while during my intake and didn't have a problem with them, which is a promising sign. I haven't spent a lot of time with little kids, so I don't know for sure what I would think of them.
I'm a real good boy, lots of fun, and very sweet. I just need a happy and comfortable place to land. I'd love to go home with a person of any age! But if you're a senior like me, there's a bonus: since I'm 9 years old, I'm eligible for the Seniors-4-Seniors program, so if a person over age 65 adopts me, my adoption fee is just $1 and routine vet care for the rest of my life is covered at the shelter at no cost to the adopter.
So come and get your own personal gray-faced comedian! I'll be here, waiting patiently.

If interested please visit odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.
