Labrador Retriever and Mixed Breed Dogs Available for Adoption in Kansas City, Missouri

JOE

Labrador Retriever, Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Kansas City, Missouri
April 25th
male, large, adult

DESCRIPTION

Pet Location: Wayside's Canine Behavior Center - I'd love to show off all the cool things I've learned at Wayside! Please arrive at the shelter before 4pm on our open adoption days to meet me!

My Friends at Wayside say:
- I am enrolled in Confidence College. This is a program for dogs to build confidence and learn that the world is not so scary. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session.
- I am from a hoarding situation. I will likely need extra time to adjust to home life. I have lived with other dogs but have not socialized with many people. Things like walking on a leash and going through doorways can be challenging for me. Adopting me will be extremely rewarding, but I need time to learn.
- I’m a little shy—slow and steady wins the race with me.
- Once I warm up, I have a lot of energy and need an active adopter!
- Chews, Kong-like feeders, puzzle toys—help to keep me entertained!
- I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information.

My home needs are:
- I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises.
- I must go home with another social dog! I gain confidence from other dogs, and I love to play with other dogs.
- I must meet other dogs in the home before adoption to make sure they can "show me the ropes."
- A fenced yard is a must for me! I do not know how to walk on a leash, so I need a secure area to go out for potty breaks.
- For my safety, I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. For your convenience, we sell them in our retail store, Whiskers and Wags.

Hi there... I’m Joe!

I’m a 1-year-old lab mix with a big heart and a goofy streak that’s just waiting to shine. I didn’t have the easiest start -- I came from a hoarding situation -- so the world can still feel a little overwhelming sometimes. I’m currently in Confidence College, learning that new things aren’t so scary after all. I may be a bit shy at first, but I promise... slow and steady wins the race with me.

Once I feel safe, my playful side really comes out! I love running around, prancing through the yard, and showing off my toys, especially if I have a dog friend to share them with! In fact, having another social dog in my home is a must. I gain so much confidence from my canine buddies, and playing with them is one of my absolute favorite things!

I’m looking for an active adopter who will help keep my mind and body busy; I like to stay entertained and have fun! A fenced yard is also important for me so I can zoom around safely and get my wiggles out.

I should also mention I have an old injury, but don’t let that fool you... I’m resilient and still full of life and energy! If you’re patient, kind, and have a playful pup already at home, I just might be your perfect match. I’m a sweet, silly guy who’s ready to keep growing, learning, and making you smile every single day. Meet me soon, okay?

Love, Joe
