We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt Luna before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: 1 ½ years old (born July 2024)

*WEIGHT: 62 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence & yard are required. No shock collars or electronic/ invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set her up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Super soft, wavy/curly, lower-shedding coat. Adopter should be prepared to work with her to build up her trust while being brushed often & have her groomed regularly with an estimated cost of $120+/groom. She was very matted upon intake & her coat was cut down short. She has not been to a professional groomer while with us. It was reported that due to her coat getting very matted in the past & bad experiences at a groomer she would get anxious & needed to be premedicated with Trazodone. Her foster used scissors to cut her short. She doesn't like it but she tolerates it & has shown no tendency to bite. It may be advisable, if groomed away from the person she trusts, to investigate using some kind of anti-anxiety medication beforehand.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium energy. She would do best with daily exercise. She does jump a little when she’s excited/you’re just returning home, but she is quick to listen when you ask her to stay down. She is very snuggly, & when you are settling down, she will be at your side. She does a good job of matching your energy. She loves to play & chase a ball & also will chill next to you.

*DOGS: Yes! She is currently living with 2 other dogs in her foster home & she is always sleeping as close to one of them as she can. She has met numerous other dogs & played very well with them. She loves to run with them & she is fast!

*CATS: No; we think cats frighten her & feel she would be most successful in a home without cats.

*KIDS: Yes! Ages 6+ would be best. She loves everyone!

*CAR: Yes! She does very well in the car; no issues.

*CRATE: Yes! She is crate trained. She is only crated when she is left in the house alone. Previous owner reported that Luna suffers from separation anxiety but she is happy to go into her crate when we leave the house. We have left her in the house while working in the front yard (& she can't see us) for at least an hour & she was fine then.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes. No accidents in her foster home!

*LEASH: She would benefit from some leash work. She has been walked daily & does fine.

*AT VET CLINIC: Luna doesn’t like to be stuck with a needle – who does? Premedicating her with anti-anxiety medication before going to the vet may be a good idea. Her foster believes as she gains confidence in your home she will become less anxious & this may not be necessary. Also we recommend taking her to the vet for ‘fun’ visits where she just walks in & gets treats & then leaves.

*WITH GROOMING: May need a gentle understanding groomer for the first time. She may need premedicating with anti-anxiety medication before grooming. She was very matted in the past & couldn’t tolerate being groomed. She doesn’t bite; she just puts her mouth on you to say that is enough.

Luna is a very sweet, loving, snuggly, young female Labradoodle who weighs 62 lbs. She was surrendered to IDOG by her owner who loved her very much; she was moving to an apartment & going to be working long hours & wanted her to be with a family who could give her more attention & get her groomed regularly.

The vet reports Luna is at her ideal weight. She is a VERY sweet confident girl who will love you forever. She settled right into our home & adapted to our routine immediately. She may do the same when she moves to her forever home. We do ask that you give any rescue dogs time to acclimate – 3/3/3 rule – 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. For 3 days the dog may wonder who you are, what the routine is, who the other dogs are. After about 3 weeks, the dog has typically acclimated to your schedule & knows her role in the house. After about 3 months, the dog has revealed their temperament & personality & settled in.
Luna loves the other dogs in the family & often wants to initiate play & she isn't a pest if they don’t want to play. She will run after a ball in the yard & bring it back. She loves to play chase & be chased. She sleeps in our bedroom all night (loves to be on the bed with you).

She loves belly rubs, butt scratches, & being close to you. At times, she can be a little timid, but is not aggressive. She will put your hand into her mouth if she feels she has been messed around with too much but I don't think she would bite. As always though one should be respectful that she has had bad experiences in the past with grooming (mats that are extremely painful) & may need some careful, mindful handling. On the other hand she is a pretty confident girl in a lot of situations. She does not typically bark; she may bark occasionally if someone comes to the door. She takes great interest in things going on around her. She settled into her foster home very quickly, taking her cues from the other dogs in the home. We just love her to bits. She is a fun, loving girl who deserves a family who will love her as much as she will love them. She likes to be in the same room as her people; she also happily takes herself outside during the day & contently lay on the deck or sit & watch the squirrels & birds.

She eats well especially as her foster mom adds wet food to her kibble every night. She is a little more discerning with her treats knowing what she likes & what she doesn't. She will just drop anything she disapproves of at your feet & look up at you to see what else you are going to offer her!

Ideally she would do best with a family that could spend a good amount of time at home with her. She loves her walks & has a blast at the dog park playing with the other dogs. I think she would love added companionship with another dog in the household. An older child (6+ due to her maybe getting a bit anxious if messed with) would be an added bonus.

Adjectives that describe Luna:
*Affectionate
*Gentle
*Cuddly
*Submissive but with a lot of confidence
*Sweet
*Loving
*Reportedly skittish occasionally if being messed with at vet/groomer
*Playful

Activities she enjoys:
-Eating treats
-Walks
-Snuggles
-Laying on the bed or couch
-Playing
-Watching the squirrels & birds

A few “needs work” items for Luna:
*becoming more confident with being groomed & at the vet.
*she could be better about jumping up once excited (though she is good about listening when asked to stop)
*minor leash work

The ideal type of home for Luna:
-fenced yard where she is able to run & play
-the more time the owner(s) can be home/spend time with Luna, the merrier for her.
-Owners who love to snuggle with her on the couch or bed (it's her favorite!)
-Owner who is able to walk & ensure her exercise needs are met. She’s more medium than high energy but still needs walks & playtime. Loves playing with other dogs.
-a family who can work with her confidence at the groomer & vet

Luna seems like she would do well in any household that can spend time with her & be part of the family. Her new owners will need to work on her reported separation anxiety. Her foster feels that this is not going to be a huge issue & starting with short periods leaving her alone should soon result in longer periods of time.

Luna is spayed, microchipped, current on core vaccines & house & crate trained. Her heartworm test & fecal tests were negative & she is current on heartworm/flea/tick preventives.

ADOPTION FEE: $675

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.
