Meet Jenna!

Jenna is an approximately 3 year old husky who showed up at someone’s house about a month ago. Given how far away from civilization she was, we think she was abandoned by her previous owners. She has gotten quite used to shelter-life unfortunately, and has gotten accustomed to our routine. Jenna can be a resource guarder, especially with men, additionally she should not go into a home with small children. We learned about her issues with resource guarding during a brief foster with a husband and wife, while she was very affectionate she wanted to guard with the husband. Unfortunately this did result in a bite. We were completely unaware of any resource guarding here at the shelter. I’d actually taken toys from her myself and she never guarded anything. She also doesn’t like being bear hugged, especially around her ribs right behind her elbows. Jenna has met my personal cat, Reek, who is living at the shelter so I can watch him after his cancer diagnosis. She was interested in Reek, but not aggressive, though I think she would chase if given the opportunity. She is very affectionate with us, and will come to us for attention, pets, and kisses. She’s also very playful and absolutely loved being allowed to play in the snow.

We realize Huskies are hard to find homes for, and the odds are severely stacked against her with resource guarding with men, and one bite on her record, although we believe it was provoked due to the foster not reading her guarding cues. We are once again in search of a unicorn home- someone who truly understands how temperamental a husky can be, and someone who is willing to work with her through her flaws and quirks. Our shelter trainer offers free 30 minute zoom sessions to people who adopt from our shelter as well. Jenna is currently placed with Amelia County Animal Control and has a euthanazia appt scheduled for Monday, February 16th.
