Meet Apollo!
First thing to know is that Apollo is a work in progress!
We believe he is around 7-9 months old and currently weighs just under 40 lbs. He was surrendered by his owner, who stated her boyfriend bought this dog from her, and she didn't want him; he was too much. She also did not know anything about where he came from or how old he was. She said she was told he was a pit husky mix. They had a choke chain on him instead of a regular collar, and he had grown so much since they first put it on. We were unable to remove it over his head and had to use bolt cutters to get it off.
At his first foster home, he exhibited all the normal anxiety signs that dogs without a solid foundation show- biting hands and arms for attention, barking at new people and dogs, crate and separation anxiety, and he had accidents in the house. This is pretty typical behavior for dogs without confidence after being moved around. Now he has learned not to bite at hands and arms for attention and will follow you around with a toy instead. He does know sit and is learning lay down and wait/stay. He will bark when excited to play, but is not barking with anxiety when meeting new people. He is a husky, so he is bound to be talkative anyway! He is now fully potty trained, but still not super fond of the crate. He still goes to the door frequently when his foster leaves, but is not showing elevated separation anxiety.
Apollo is looking for a forever home with someone who understands that he should have received this comfort and confidence-building foundation as a much younger puppy and will continue to teach him proper manners and make him feel loved and wanted. He is a very smart dog who picks up on things pretty quickly, but there may be a backslide on his progress when moved to a new home, so a patient owner is a must. We also believe he would do best in a home with another dog who can help teach him and help him get his puppy wiggles out by playing!
Apollo will make someone a loving companion, will you commit to being his?
