Howie is a stunning two-year-old Husky/German Shepherd mix with the most soulful eyes you’ve ever seen. His story is a heartbreaking one — Howie came into rescue after his beloved owner tragically took his own life. When animal control arrived, they found loyal Howie lying faithfully beside him, refusing to leave his person’s side. That devotion speaks volumes about the kind of dog he is.

Despite such a heavy loss, Howie’s heart is still wide open. He is house trained, leash trained, current on all vaccinations, and heartworm negative. He’s the total package when it comes to manners and health.

Howie absolutely loves cats and does wonderful with other dogs. He enjoys playing ball, romping around with his canine friends, and exploring the great outdoors. With his Husky and Shepherd roots, he would thrive in an active home that enjoys walks, hikes, and outdoor adventures. He’s happiest when he has room to stretch his legs and people to share the experience with.

More than anything, Howie just wants to be by your side. He forms deep bonds and is the definition of loyal companionship. Whether you’re relaxing at home or heading out for an adventure, Howie will be right there — steady, loving, and devoted.

Howie has already proven how deeply he can love. Now he’s just waiting for a family to love him back forever. 🐾

Important transport notes:
• We cannot do meet-and-greets. The trip is long and demanding, and it would not be safe or fair for a dog or puppy to travel north and then return to Texas.
• No deposits are accepted.
• All adoption fees are paid in person at pick-up.

The adoption fee includes transport to the following locations:

Missouri:
* Herculaneum (south of St Louis) - Friday evening
Illinois:
• Collinsville (north of St. Louis) - Friday evening
• Springfield - Friday evening
• Bloomington / Normal - Friday evening
• Oglesby - Saturday morning
• Roscoe - Saturday morning
Wisconsin:
• Sun Prairie - Saturday late morning
• Fond du Lac - Saturday early afternoon

Additional notes:
• Green Bay area adopters meet in Fond du Lac
• Joliet & Davenport area adopters meet in Oglesby or Roscoe
• Milwaukee area adopters: we do not have a Milwaukee stop, but we do stop in Sun Prairie, Fond du Lac, and Roscoe (near Rockford)

Medical & Spay/Neuter Information:
Most puppies travel with two rounds of vaccines, and sometimes three. Occasionally, we may not have had a puppy long enough for a second round.

Puppies under 6–8 months of age are not spayed or neutered. Spaying or neutering is a required condition of adoption and must be completed by the puppy’s first birthday, at the adopter’s expense. Out-of-state surgery costs are not included in the adoption fee.

About Our Rescue
Atlanta Texas Area Spay Neuter Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Adoption proceeds go directly toward:
• Spaying and neutering dogs for low-income families in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana
• Medical care for rescued puppies and dogs
• Emergency veterinary assistance for families in need when possible

All dogs remain in Texas foster homes until adopted.
