We see, feel and understand how unfair life has been to him. He didn't seem to ever have a stable home and the last time he was rehomed to someone, they decided he was too big, so he was surrendered, aka dumped, at the shelter. When we saw Max come out on the euthanasia list at the Palmdale shelter, we took a closer look. Reading his medical since his intake on February 18, he was fearful, tense and flinched, avoided contact. A week later on February 25, he lost 6 pounds from intake. He was given a body composition score of 3.5/9. His ribs and hip bones were protruding. Seeing how he deteriorated in that environment, we couldn't stand by and let that be the way his story ended. We quickly got a plan together to exit Max and got him to safety.
Max came into rescue on March 5th. He is in boarding while we wait for a foster or forever home, but they have dedicated time to interact with him to show him humans can be kind. His coat shows evidence that he may have spent a considerable amount of time outdoors and possibly even tethered or chained. Max shows potential to trust again in the right environment where people will let him come around at his own pace. We will continue to update Max's info as we get to know him more. If he sounds like a dog you'd be interested in meeting, please fill out an application on labradorsandfriends.org. Max is located in Southern California.
